Chocolate Labrador Retriever : : Male
Hi my name is Guinness! Or Guinny Pig, as my foster family calls me. I originally got that nickname because I absolutely love food!! I mean, what kind of lab would I be if I didn’t?? I am a special boy! Not just because of my handsome looks & quick ability to learn all the things you teach me, but medically special. I have a medical condition called Megaesophagus disorder, ME for short. Essentially, it means that my esophagus is larger in size & consequently loses its ability to transport food to my stomach. This means that if I don’t sit upright while eating my meals, my food won’t be properly transported to my tummy. Some dogs with ME struggle to digest water, or even small treats, but I don’t. (Unless I gobble up the entire water bowl, which I sometimes forget to stop and keep drinking, and I will have a little puke up, but nothing a quick wipe up won’t solve). My foster parents joined a group on Facebook that has other owners/fosters of dogs who have the same disorder as me, isn’t that cool? There’s a ton of helpful people out there, just wanting share what works and what doesn’t. Luckily, my foster parents know me well & will provide you with all of the knowledge of what works and what doesn’t for me. They tell me I’m so resilient & beating all the milestones I should be. I started obedience training last month and I’m a quick learner who is very motivated by treats. I have learned leave it, sit, stay, paw & speak so far and I am also working on my leash skills. I have good recall, but I am still a puppy who gets distracted easily, so it’s still a work in progress. I am crate trained and don’t often give any fuss when foster mom says I need to go in there. I also sleep in there at night and I don’t ever make a sound. I am a very playful guy, and I love my foster siblings because they play fight with me every day. I would be best in a house with a dog companion. I do like to play rough, so a bigger dog, or one who likes to tussle would be a great fit. Foster mom says I am true to my breed and love all the typical lab things, like chewing, playing fetch, finding sticks, going on adventures & enjoying the water in the summer & snow in the winter. If you think we’d be a good fit, fill out an application here Adoption Information (hankshaven.ca) & foster mom and dad will be happy to tell you even more about me! * Guinness is being fostered in Port Severn* |
